Crystalline-Electric-Field Effect on the Resistivity of Ce-based Heavy Fermion Systems

چکیده
The behavior of the resistivity of Ce-based heavy fermion systems is studied using a 1/N expansion method á la Nagoya, where N is the spin-orbital degeneracy of f-electrons. The 1/N -expansion is performed in terms of the auxiliary particles, and a strict requirement of the local constraints is fulfilled for each order of 1/N . The physical quantities can be calculated over the entire temperature range by solving the coupled Dyson equations for the Green functions self-consistently at each temperature. This 1/N -expansion method is known to provide asymptotically exact results for the behavior of physical quantities in both lowand high-energy regions when it is applied to a single orbital periodic Anderson model (PAM). On the basis of a generalized PAM including crystalline-electric-field splitting with a single conduction band, the pressure dependence of the resistivity ρ is calculated by parameterizing the effect of pressure as the variation of the hybridization parameter between the conduction electrons and f-electrons. The main result of the present study is that the double-peak structure of the T -dependence of ρ(T ) is shown to merge into a single-peak structure with increasing pressure.

The filled skutterudite compound PrOs4Sb12, the first example of a Pr-based heavy fermion superconductor, displays superconductivity with Tc ∼ 1.85 K and has an effective mass m ∗ ∼ 50 me, where me is the free electron mass. For magnetic fields above 4.5 T, sharp features in the normal state electrical resistivity, magnetization, specific heat, and thermal expansion data suggest the occurrence ...

For this decade, our group has developed a theory for unconventional superconductivity in Ce-based heavy fermion systems CeCu2(Ge,Si)2 which exhibits anomalous enhancement of superconducting transition temperature Tsc and non-Fermi liquid properties such as T-linear resistivity and huge enhancement of residual resistivity under pressure P~Pv where the valence of Ce ion appears to change drastic...

The temperature T and magnetic field H dependencies of the electrical resistivity ρ of the recently discovered heavy fermion superconductor PrOs 4 Sb 12 have features that are associated with the splitting of the Pr 3+ Hund's rule multiplet by the crystalline electric field (CEF). These features are apparently due to magnetic exchange and aspherical Coulomb scattering from the thermally populat...

An elastic anomaly, observed in the heavy Fermi liquid state of Ce alloys (for example, CeCu6 and CeTe), is analyzed by using the infinite-U Anderson lattice model. Four atomic energy levels are assumed for f-electrons. Two of them are mutually degenerate. A small crystalline splitting 2∆ is assumed between two energy levels. Fourfold degenerate conduction bands are also considered. We solve th...
